We must put safety before anything else since cosmetics are used directly on the skin . It is no need to mention that safety should be guaranteed in terms of not only by the selection of ingredients and verification at the development stage, but through the whole process including container selection, manufacturing process management, labeling and warnings, and post-marketing safety management.

Japan Cosmetic Industry Association (JCIA) pursues the safety of cosmetics based on “sound science” led by the Science & Technology Committee. Not to mention complying with laws and regulations, we build a strict safety assurance system based on our high ideals and provide the market with world-class, high-quality cosmetics.

In addition to providing regulatory and technical information to cosmetic industry, we provide opportunities to learn the importance and methods of safety evaluation. We have established guidelines such as the Cosmetics Manufacturing Guidelines as voluntary standards and hold JCIA Technology Meeting, Cosmetics Safety Evaluation Seminars (beginner level and introductory practice level), and Microbial Management Seminar for members.

We also support scientific development of efficacy of cosmetics that enrich people’s lives, while working to deliver useful information to consumers so that they can use cosmetics safely.

In the midst of accelerating globalization, the safety of cosmetics knows no borders. The JCIA will continue making daily efforts with its member companies to deliver “safe and secure” to consumers.
