1. Cosmetic Shipment

 

According to the Production dynamics statistics by METI(Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), cosmetic shipments in Japan were around \1.5 trillion yen during 2004 to 2008. Due to the Lehman crisis in 2008, it significantly decreased to approximately \1.4 trillion yen for four consecutive years. However, it has turned to increase drastically since 2014 and exceeded \1.5 trillion yen in 2015. (Fig.1)

Although cosmetic shipment per unit (average shipping unit price per 1kg) had continuously decreased in deflationary trend since 1990s, it has changed to improve in recent years. (Fig.2)

fig.3Among an itemized breakdown of cosmetics in 2015, skincare cosmetics accounted for 46.9%, hair care for 27.1%, make up cosmetics for 20.1%, specific use for 5.7% and perfume/ eau de cologne for 0.3%. (Fig.3)

The trends of the principal items in every five years from 1985 to 2015 indicate that cleansing creams, sunscreens, and men’s skin care cosmetics have increased, while lipsticks, nail cosmetics, and perfume/eau de cologne have decreased. (Fig4)
